Not only that, but a very serviceable cloth can be made from nettle fibres.   It may even have been the first kind of fabric to be made in Europe ; certainly it goes back a very long way. Nettle fibre nets have been found in ancient Celtic lake villages in Switzerland, and nettle shirts were still being made in Germany until the last century.
