As promised/threatened the other day...

I think the key to this Heroquest is in the final section

>Therefore, Christian men, be sure,
>Wealth or rank possessing,
>Ye who now will bless the poor,
>Shall yourselves find blessing.

It is one of those Heroquests that a community leader (King Wenceslas) goes on to bring benefits to the community. The Quest takes place in the depths of Dark Season, when the community is suffering the depredations of winter

>On the Feast of Stephen,
>When the snow lay round about,
>Deep and crisp and even;
>Brightly shone the moon that night,
>Tho' the frost was cruel,

The Community Sacrifice Food & Fuel

>Bring me flesh, and bring me wine,
>Bring me pine logs hither:

and send the Questor and his assistant (the Page) out on a journey to deliver the sacrifice to "the Poor Man" who lives

>a good league hence,
>Underneath the mountain;
>Right against the forest fence,
>By Saint Agnes' fountain."

On the way, they struggle against various obstacles

>the night is darker now,
>And the wind blows stronger;
>Fails my heart, I know not how,
>I can go no longer.

If the prime questor is able to protect his charge and deliver the sacrifice to the poor man he will bring back blessings to the community who will

> find the winter's rage
>Freeze thy blood less coldly."

So while this Quest can be carried out by an individual to gain some sort of "Warming fooprint" ability, I think it is normally done for the benefit of the community...
