Has this Lunar simply turned his back on the Empire or actively turned against it? If the overall theme of the game is going to be fighting the Empire, odds are he would have abandoned his Lunar ways and taken up new gods or no god at all. Alternatively, if he's just been taken by Heortling ways (or women, or ale, or sheep, or whatever) then he could still remain a Lunar -- indeed, this might well be Sedenya's great plan for him, to stand as an example of honour and decency to the unwashed barbarians.

Of course nothing, nothing at all, is impossible, you just have to come up with the right reasons (and, if necessary, the appropriate downsides). So he's a Yanafal swordsman who still seems to be using his magic while fighting Lunars. What's that about? Maybe he struck a deal with the god, unlimited indulgence for five years, five weeks and five days, in return for some unspecified but huge and soulshaking  future deed? Maybe he's actually convinced that in defending people against the rapacious forces of imperialism he is actually remaining true to YT's original example, and somehow his god hasn't forsaken him? (This could make him the focus for a future offshoot of the YT cult, the target of traditionalist Yanafali who want to silence this troublesome heretic or probably both)? Or... You get the idea!

All the best

Mark
