For what its worth, I often do a quick "travel montage" of a few quick encounters (usually resolved by a simple contest). These could be things like running away from a dinosaur, defeating bandits, negotiating space on a caravan thats going your way. Simple stuff, really. But seems to fit the genre fairly well and relives one from saying "You Arrive Without Incident" - for me it just has a nicer feel to it.
