Taking out Hon-Eel (and gods' identities)

Jeff Richard, our narrator, suggested that I let folks here in on what out player characters are trying to do with regard to merging and unmerging gods.

Specifically, the are in the Sartar campaign (currently 1615). The player characters are Sartarites who are trying to get revenge on the ruling dynasty of Tarsh, the neighboring kingdom that is a province of the Lunar Empire.

One thing the characters have learned is that Hon-Eel, the Lunar hero who founded the dynasty, was somehow able to effect a partial merger between the Lunar goddess She Who Waits and Ernalda. Her work enabled her to appear in an Ernalda ritual at the main temple in Tarsh.

We are contemplating trying to undo Hon-Eel's work: Separate Ernalda from She Who Waits, hoping to weaken the Tarsh dynasty's control. From the discussion here, this seems to be a saga-length endeavor that our characters might never see the end of, but it would be nice to make some progress for future generations.

I appreciate any comments or suggestions.
