It's an idea. The one thing we do know about them is that Light Sons aren't allowed to eat them.
"May not eat fish, potatos, or raw eggs in any form." (Sun County p23). I'd always assumed this was because of the Earth associations, myself.

"Pomme de lune" is the closely-related Tomato, surely? Or if you're playing Dart Wars at the time, the also-closely-related Deadly Nightshade?
