Hi Vlad!

I am going to take a shot at being helpfull, please let me know if I succeed!

First off, Heroquest is a very different kind of rule system to many other roleplaying games. I suggest reading the examples of play, as they are really very good at explaining the rules mechanisms.

I also suggest that you pick a magic system and base your first games on that. I suggest Theism as I found it the easiest. Including common magic works ok as well.

Then I would try making up a character, and having a few extended contest fights, using the various rules.

I also suggest running through the example scenario's in the book. They introduce the rules in a very nice structured way, in my opinion. Once you get into you will find that Heroquest is actually a very fluid and intuitive roleplaying system.

If you can get to a convention then the 'Masters of Luck & Death Narrators' (of which I am one) run scenario's and will be happy to discuss 'how to play' over a drink or two!

Where are you based? There is the very fine Tentacles Convention in Germany this year, attended by Mr Glorantha himself - Greg Stafford, and of course over here in the UK we have the Continuum 2006 convention which will be heaving with Heroquest narrators and the gad-about Greg Stafford!!

Regards
Rob
