Most games accept (as Jeff says, encourage and welcome!) complete novices when you're joining in from the beginning, some of the longer-running ones wouldn't be all that suitable.
Thinking through the ones I'm in at the moment, the problem may be finding a space rather than being a newbie. While replacements for people who drop out are often required, games tend to have waiting lists. But you can always ask: ask to lurk, if nothing else.
