In that case they and you might actually appreciate a read through George Silver. There are other manuals, but this is a good starting point.

Written in 1599, and does quite a lot of comparison of different weapons, combinations, and styles, plus a look at what weapon length is suited to what person and fighting style, and why. Unlike D&D and SCA manuals on the subject, this was written by someone who did it for real, and was considered good at it, in a period when this mattered.
