I, unfortunately, have to second this and say that I too am saddened. Largely because I find Jane's input to be extremely edifying normally and because I value her friendship and camraderie - all of which she gives without reserve or restraint.
Having said this, I found Jeff Kyer's tone (*whatever the motivation/provocation/history*) entirely inappropriate and the act of publicly rebuking someone distasteful. Please think of the others who will inevitably read your posts. Very uncharacteristic and unmoderator-like. You may not care but I think Jane is probably feeling humiliated at the moment. With great power comes great responsibility :)
As a long-time member of all of the lists, I'd really appreciate people for keeping politics out of the lists. Maybe there's already a rule somewhere about that?
If you have to rebuke someone or address an issue do it in private emails or better still on the phone. Emails and discussion groups online have a nasty tendancy to convey entirely the wrong feeling and approach. If some message to the list to indicate publicly that discussions along these lines have taken place, I suggest something like: "this issue has been moved to private emails" - revealing no details.
I don't think Jeff K should step down, everyone makes mistakes. I don't think Jane should be banned, which it seems has been done.
I do hope this doesn't offend anyone but to do believe it needed to be said.

Have to say I'm saddened by the recent 'The Purpose of this List' discussion and the abbreviation of 'World of Glorantha'. Do you know, I've been on that list for a while and NOT ONCE have I ever sat there and thought to myself, 'Hey - it can be abbreviated to WoG and that's just plain racist'. Not once.
Jane, with all respect, I think you've blown this right out of proportion and it seems to me that the opportunity for rational discussion about HQ2 and Pavis is being derailed in favour of something that might be of supreme importance to you, but really doesn't matter at all.
I'm sure that there are dozens and dozens of acronyms out there that might have unfortunate connotations in every language, from English through to Swahili. But to infer that the choice of the World of Glorantha name was deliberately made to offend is... well... words fail me.
So, any chance of a discussion about HQ2, or do I need to call in the Commission for Racial Equality?
Sorry to make my first post like this, but I really AM stunned at the direction of the conversation!
