FWIW....
- I can't imagine running disipated nobility anywhere (but especially
in the lunar empire), without watching Dangerous Liasons.
- Speaking of wasted lives, (and stepping away from movies) I've
always thought that much of Balzac's Paris would feel roughly correct
in a number of old Gloranthan metropoli--especially as the immenent
hero wars have resulted in various events shaking the social order.
Try reading Pere Goriot (in some english editions I think it is
called "Old Goriot")
- For a feel of how a lot of Lunars probably feel about service in
Sartar, try finding "Black Robe" a canadian film about a french
priest going inland to a mission. Probably hard to find in video
even in Canada, and likely next to impossible elsewhere, but the
sense of complete alienness between the priest and the natives is
incredible. Awfully depressing movie, mind you.
- Robin Hood and his followers are the prototypical hero band
resisting oppressive nobility (be it norman, lunar, or other). Sure
it is a complete fable in almost all versions, but it's enduring
popularity does suggest there are worst thing you could use as a
model....besides which most film versions are chock full of ideas of
how to run various contests as dramatic events. (although I admit
the old disney animated version is my favorite there are probably
other adaptations more suited inspiring HW ideas).
hmmmm, come to think of I generally prefer books to movies.....maybe
that is somehow related to the fact that as a game master I tend to
have a ton of trouble with pacing and inserting too much detail.
