Its driven from the physical plane. I seem to remember that the bat needs to feed in order to remain in the physical world. It is very difficult for the Empire to regain the bat hence they keep it well fed. If it is destroyed/ driven from the physical plane why can't it just do an Obi Wan and disappear? Perhaps fading?
Also, because of the religious and ritual nature of the seige could we expect the storm powersto be more acute, even to the point of Orlanth himself stirring and straining against the webs of arachne solara. I'm thinking about the first age sunstop sort of thing.
