A thought, inspired by KoDP. A trickster enhances ritual magic. (Remember the plus 1 for having a trickster on the ring?)

Yes, but!

1 - it is not guaranteed. Sometimes the trickster will cause the ritual to fail.

2 - it _always_ costs in unexpected ways. An important piece of regalia is destroyed. A wyter loses a function. The best bull in the clan dies. A man (other than the trickster) loses his genitals and beard, but isn't a woman either. Conversely, if the trickster causes the ritual to fail, there is a slim chance that you will get some unexpected benefit - never enough to compensate for the failed ritual but better than nothing.

3 - the trickster will continue to be a pain, more trouble than he is worth, but... (Who else can you so conveniently use as a scapegoat in a ritual - curses always fade away from him wheras for anyone else the curse would be permanent).

4 - eventually, the trickster will betray the bonder and/or his community.

regards,
Charles
