I just re-read that, and spotted this:

OMG. That wouldn't be the First Pavis Ballista, would it? The one "manned" by baboons? (reads next paragraph) - yes, it would! The Lunars are using THEM to deal with the supply-smuggling ducks? There's a game there, I can just see it.
