Ha ha. The other branch of the family stayed in Rhode Island and there was extensive contact between the families until the 1920s when there was some sort of falling out over religion.
Actually, I am also reminded that many samurai families during the Waring States period splitting allegiances like that so that some of them would survive regardless of the outcome (and the cost of defeat was fairly extreme).
