The way I see this is that the priestesses of Ernalda deliberately confuse Ernalda with several of her daughters. So when a priestess tells a myth of Barntar being the husbandprotector  of Ernalda she may be talking about Ernalda's daughter Mahome, or maybe not. If you ask what she means the clearest answer you'll get is that Mahome is an aspect of Ernalda. Alternatively you might get told that it is one of Ernalda's mysteries. So I'd expect the definitive list of husband protectors to vary from priestess to priestess and maybe from season to season.

Is your Theyalan a follower of Ernalda or some other god?

An Ernaldan will understand the mystery while the others will realise that they do not understand.
