That's one of the reasons that I have always enjoyed films that just stuck with the proper languages, like 'Shogun', or 'The Russians are Coming, the Russians are Coming'.  Subtitles where appropriate, or even just let the watchers wonder what the heck is being said, if the main character is likewise linguistically adrift.   
However, from the point of view of gaming, it is just too hard to keep that up for a ref.  It slows down play, and our play is usually slow enough already that this is not a good idea!  Bug 'em a bit at the start, and then assume that a crash immersion course in the local language or dialect will make them understandable, if still identifiably 'not from around these parts'.  (Love that line in 'Silverado'.  'Course, it is John Cleese.)

... and in "Born of Hope" (or wath it "The Hunt for Gollum") Orks spake Welsh or sumthin'!!

Can you imagine what an american film sounds like to the German, when (say WW II) it has Krauts speaking?! Or add to it, if French resistance also has their share? In Inglourious Basterds it was actually resolved very good. I suppose this film sounds even more odd to the American audience.

Yeah, at the end I think our discussion is... well, not fruitless, as we had our insights... but will not lead to reach our original goal.
