Using and controlling are subtly different. I can imagine Aldryami elves somehow seeding an area with dangerous slorifing spores which pop up like ferns and cause havoc to local humans, just because that it what they do.

I think there is some mileage to go using the miniature gargoyles of Vralos as a major pest. They only eat earth with a particular ore in it so are limited, longterm, to certain areas but it seems to me that this should have some interesting story relating to Oabil, or perhaps Mostali plans, to explain why they are the way they are. Do the gargoyles swarm at certain times, are they controllable, what motivates them, do they have enemies in Vralos such as the Ape Gargoyle.
