The standard bearer is also an at rest spearman. We take the shields off and standard out pre master mould. Then variant the hoplites with different shields.
So you will have 3 or 4 crouching spearmen with different shields in one pack, 3 or 4 thrusting in a second pack, 3 or 4 at rest with difeerent shield etc and a command group.
Waste of resources? Perhaps. But my garage is full of boring old Essex hoplites...
