Westerners' Chaos-detecting abilities can be a bit patchy, as Trolls were sometimes called Krjalki too. (Could one say that this went down with the Uz about as well as a lead balloon?) Arinsor's demons would definitely be called 'Krjalki', whether or not they were actually tainted with Chaos

Then there is the argument over whether Tap [characteristic] is Chaotic because its destructive effects are a bit like the annihilation caused by Chaos (though the main source of this Malkioni taboo is the commandment in the Precepts of Malkion not to destroy what you love, which some sects interpret more narrowly than others) Do we know what Arinsor's attitude to tapping was, or was he simply too busy with his demons for anyone to find out? (Also would people think better of him if he had tapped the demons he summoned?)
That Arinsor was a foe of Talor doesn't help either, as Talor was a noted Chaos fighter. (Come to think of it, what kind of magic did Talor's Vampiric foes use?)

Talor battled vampires and werewolves and (now) a sorceror -- does this make Talor sound like the First Age's answer to Van Helsing (albeit the recentish Hollywood version rather than Bram Stoker's original), or what?

Arinsor isn't the only sorceror to have used Essence Plane magic to deal with Chaos. Subject to the reservations expressed earlier about the imprecise correlation between the term Krjalki and real Chaos, there is the illustration of a Galvosti sorceror (a filthy heretic who probably taps people too) summoning a Krjalki in Gods of Glorantha. Were the Galvosti heretics accused of dabbling in Chaos too, or was their indictment long enough already?

Do the Borist heretics (who use Logic but have an odd and overly intimate relationship with Chaos for others' liking)count too? What about the Guild of Chaos Monks?

Finally if Chaos is taboo to wizards and sorcerors and the Vadeli make a point of breaking taboos, does this mean that the Vadeli tinker with Chaos as well? The Vadeli undeniably use Logic (though maybe not the same logic as everyone else), and yet Logic's analysis of Vadeli practices suggest that they should deal inappropriately with Chaos as well. Or is this the one taboo that even the Vadeli respect?

PS: the idea of Logic is so important to Westerners that it sounds like it ought to have its own Rune. Though if you don't want a proliferation of runic symbols, one neat solution (which may even be officially sanctioned already), would be for Logic to be the Westerners' name for the equilateral triangle known in other places as the Law rune, which refers not so much to justice as to the natural laws of the universe and to the philosophers and scholars (Wizards, Sorcerors and members of scholarly theistic cults like Lhankor Mhy, Irripi Ontor and Buserian) who try to understand them.

Subject: Arinsor the misunderstood or the krajlki demon ?

Of course, apologists for the more morally flexible Western schools might say that. /// Indeed. Wizardy is Applied Logic. Logic does not include Chaos. Ergo, Arinsor could not have been chaotic. Or he could not have been a sorcerer. If he was both, then our whole Logical construction collapses. But that's chaos for you.

Others might point to the chaotic monsters favoured by Arinsor in his lifetime, and that remain behind in his wake. /// All I know is that he opened the Gate of Bannir, and it spewed monstruosities. He was also a foe of Talor. I'm curious to know more about him. What do you gentlemen know ?

For all we know, he was looking for Logical Power and fumbled when he tried the ritual that openened the Gate of Bannir. Or it spewed horrible demons which have nothing to do with chaos. Who knows more about that ?
