"Cookie cutter" means something that is simplified - like a star or circle
of gingerbread man made by a shaped pastry cutter. It means not very
distinctive or original. For example, D&D elves are "cookie cutter" elves,
Gloranthan elves are very much not. RuneQuest vampires are "cookie cutter"
vampires - they can turn into wolves, bats, or mist with no real
exploration or explanation of why, for example.
