I choked at this.
The truly, truly horrible thing is that those adjectives actually describe the Vadeli we met ... and they were still terrifying.
A great portion of the terror was that their reputation preceded them, but they never acted in accordance with it. They seemed amusedly tolerant of us, like when a Great Dane walks past a Chihuahua barking madly. Or when a blue whale sees a scuba diver.
