You could probably get away with using Automatic Augments to "Slightly enhance" yourself, but in most societies starting to "do magic" (whatever that looks like in that society/your game) is going to get people *very* nervous, especially if they are the kind of professional paranoids with sharp weapons called "Bodyguards".

So stroking a lucky rabbit's foot (yeah, I know, "how lucky was it for the rabbit?") unobtrusively is probably not going to get you any bad looks, but calling on "Powers" in the middle of a negotiation will be more than just frowned on. People will walk away from your market stall, or knock you out before whatever-the-heck you're starting threatens harms their charge, or slap your face and call their brothers to ride you out of town on a rail (depending on what you're negotiating for, of course...).

Doing your magic and then coming into a negotiation/social situation is silly, since you'll have your Hero Glow, and everyone will know that you're powered up. They may not know what you've got, but they'll know you have *something*. They'll either refuse to deal with you, or put up their own magic to counter what they think you have. Most high muckity-mucks probably won't allow you to approach with obvious magic - the same as "bearing weapons in the presence of the king" sort of rules.
