     Quills, rather than pens, I would have thought. Paper is certainly possible, although I feel parchment is more probable. Of course, they'll carve things into cathedral walls, tomb stones, etc. as well.

     Black is generally cheapest, although the stuff RW medieval Europeans used faded with time to brown. For important religious manuscripts, I would expect they'll use lots of illuminations, and thus want as many colours of ink as they can figure out how to make.

     I am assuming here that, given the profusion of different sects, they aren't so legalistic and conservative as to require that copies of Holy Scripture look physically identical to those of their Brithini forebears (somewhat in the way that the Guru Granth is) in which case they will probably use tedious undecorative script and plain black ink...

     This is, of course, a perfect excuse to plug my website, with its recipes for medieval inks and paper making....
