Re: Weaponthanes and Housecarls

To do the unthinkable and talked about a think when I was 'Gregged' after talking about huscarls.....

The switch from huscarl to weaponsthane was done to s describe the level of status afforded the clan's best (and full-time) warriors. Weaponsthanes (or spearthane, or swordthane) have the status of other clan thanes, and are thought of as such. A huscarl would be of the rank of a normal carl. Personally, I don't think all hall warriors should rate so well, but the best sure would be. A drunken Uroxi you hired would not get such special status, but your clan champion would.

After all, what is clan politics without a little physical initimidation? Would the average carl feel pressure when arguing with a man known to have killed 10 men in battle?

In all our Orlanthi games (Taming of Dragon Pass, etc) we really used the words interchangeably anyway. Once you've called someone a professional warrior what else is there to do?

Oh, if you are looking for Ye Booke of Tentacles I or II I happened to get a bunch shipped to me from Ingo. There's lots of other such in stock too (Enclosure, Questlines I...)
