Actually, according to the HW rules that have been bandied about, a cow is about worth one permanent wealth.

And, considering that cows are not 'unique,' 'expensive' and are not everyday items. In the arming of Oranth, things like swords and horses (admittedly not sacrificed) are all worth +1. It makes sense that destroying/sacrificing the item might generate 2x the value. But I may be too stingy, yes.
