That's my cue...

Sadly, those Black Oaks in the version of Chasing Kites don't quite fit anymore. Too many Orlanthi and not enough Doburdoni. There is a moderatly detailed writeup of the Black Oaks in YBOT4 and hopefully more on them in latter, Issaries, supplements.

However:

The Black Oaks are a small clan created by King Kangharl "Blackmor" Kagradusson from his personal followers and allies among the Colymar. King Blackmoor styles himself as a "High King" rather than a mere Tribal King and feels that an entire clan should be devoted to serving his needs. Using lands traditionally belonging to him as Tribal King and land seized from the rebellious Black Spear Clan, Kangharl set up several large steads in the hills south of Tarndisi's Grove. Herds and goods plundered from his opponents went to enrich the clan. In Fire Season, 1618, his priests summoned forth the mighty "Rakstant the Black Oak," a Wind sacred to Doburdun and the Black Oak clan was born. Since that day, many Heortlings have been added to the clan. Often these 'recruits' have been forcibly converted to the Lunar Way rather than be outlawed or slain. Others clansmen were malcontents, turncoats, criminals and opportunists who see the clan as their chance for wealth and power. The Black Oaks may not be a happy clan but thanks to the king, they have become both wealthy and hated.

Note: Since Doburdun worship doesn't support farming and thus requires either dual initation or a farmer with crappy magic, they make up the difference by an extensive raiding economy and lots of (equally ineffient) thralls.

Can't say much more without annoying Fabian. Get YBOT4 when it comes out.

Hope that helps?
Jeff
