The fact that Runequest didn't use character classes, which were a rules
construct I always loathed, and that it was made by the same people who made
Call of Cthulhu, made me pick the game up in the first place. Once I read it, I
fell in love with:
- The cult writeups, even when I'd only read the Orlanth and Kyger Litor ones.
They had character, and made the world seem alive.
- The map of Dragon Pass in RQ2, which just looked so damn interesting.
- The fact that 'monster races' (trolls, frex) were treated like actual people,
and not just as cannon fodder to be chopped down by mighty-thewed fighters.
- The "bronze age" look and feel. (Yeah, I know that's not strictly right, but
it attracted me then).
