Maybe not. See my thought below.

There is a primal myth about the original birth of the sun. Maybe they replayed that. Darkness came from nothing; Water came from Darkness; Earth came from Water; Sky came from Earth; the Sun was part of the Sky. If it has an origin, it can have a story. So maybe they just enlisted a story to re-create the birth of the Sun.

More interestingly, maybe they didn't know that's what they were doing, and it conflicted inherently with the part of the Compromise that says the Sun has to replay all of its life each day.
